Strange people
in Vienna, Austria
These two guys made my day on a cold winter day in Vienna. I
wonder where they did come from? Any ideas?
Kunsthaus Bregenz
At the Kunsthaus of Bregenz I saw an
interesting exhibition with the title 'The secret Hotel'.
Wiesberg Castle
Photo of Wiesberg Castle taken during a train ride. The castle is
situated next to the Trisanna railway bridge which got famous in
1964. In this year the bridge was replaced by a newer one within a few hours.
Goethe's summer house
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe lived for many years in Weimar. Besides a
residential house he owned also a small garden with summer house, where I
saw some furniture and works of him.

During a walk trough a public garden ('Volksgarten')
of Vienna I took this photo of the
Museum of
Natural History ('Naturhistorisches Museum') which was
opened in the year 1889.

From a window of the Museum of Fine Arts I had this view onto the
Museum
of Natural History. The monument in front of the museum is about Maria
Theresa of Austria.

Modern Art
The white building of the
Museum der Moderne located on top of the Mönchsberg offers exhibitions
about modern art inside and a great view of
Salzburg outside.
Hofmarstallschwemme
Next to the Sigmundstor which is the oldest road tunnel of
Austria I came across this horse pond ('Pferdeschwemme') which I had already
seen in a sequence of the movie ''Sound of Music'.
Salzburger Dom
The Salzburg Cathedral ('Salzburger Dom') was built
in 17th century and was the site of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's
baptism. In the background you can see the cable railway up
to the fortress.
Roman fashion
show
During a Roman festival in Carnuntum I visited a fashion
show where I was not only told about the 'latest' trends
2,000 years ago but also how to put on an ancient Roman toga.

The Museum of Military History in Vienna shows the History of Austria from
the end of the 16th century up to the year 1945
View of Salzburg
In front of the Museum of Modern Art there is a small path where I had a
great view of the old part of Salzburg and the fortress.
Schloss Nordkirchen
The former castle was the largest castle with a moat in Westphalia. The recent
palace is often called the 'Versailles of Westphalia'.
Roman ballista
During a Roman festival in Carnuntum I saw this Balista in
action. It was interesting to see how the construction works.
Roman groma
In a presentation I was told how the ancient Romans used a groma for
surveying straight lines, squares and rectangles.
Schönbrunn Palace
Schönbrunn Palace is part of the UNESCO World Culture Heritage and one of
the most visited sights in Vienna.
Sunflower at Heldenplatz
In the year 2005 in remembrance of 1945 there were sunflowers and vegetables
plant at the Heldenplatz in the middle of Vienna.
Bank Austria Kunstforum
A gallery placed in an old bank building where even the former vault is used
for displaying the art pieces.
Kunsthaus Graz
The Kunsthaus
(House of Art) in Graz was opened
in
2003 and was soon called 'The friendly alien' because
of its strange shape.
Clock Tower of Graz
The landmark of Graz is a clock tower which is one of the last pieces of a
former fortress.
Cemetery of St. Peter
The cemetery of St. Peter is not only the oldest cemetery of
Salzburg but was also a set in the US movie 'Sound of
Music'.
Railway station
Bischofshofen
The railway station of Bischofshofen has a great view onto the mountains of the
Austrian province Salzburg.
Belvedere Gardens
The Belvedere Gardens are placed between the Upper Belvedere and Lower
Belvedere in Vienna.
