Schlosshotel Velden
The palace was built in the end of the 16th century by
Barthlmä Khevenhüller. After 1890 it was mainly used ad a
hotel and got famous in the German TV series 'Ein Schloss am
Wörthersee'.
Slavkov Palace
In Slavkov u Brna I visited the
baroque
Slavkov Palace which was designed by the Italian
architect Domenico Martinelli. 1805 an armistice was signed
between Austria and France (Napoleon) here.
Roman inscription
In the backyard of the hotel Tatra in the Slovakian town Trenčín
I visited this Roman inscription which reminds of the fact
that Roman troops had camped here during a campaign in
179/180.
Trenčín Castle
At
Trenčín Castle, a castle in
the Slovakian town
Trenčín, I visited a
gallery and a collection of weapons and went to the top of
the tower, called Mathias Tower.
Peacock at Ambras Castle
During my visit at Ambras Castle in Innsbruck (Tyrol) I got in touch with a
peacock who was just going into the ticket shop. I didn't
find out what this royal bird had done there.
Third-Man-Museum
The Third-Man-Museum in Vienna is a privately run
museum dedicated to the movie 'The Third Man' which was shot in the ruins of
Vienna in 1948.
Truck AFL of Austro Fiat
In front of the Museum of Military History in Vienna I saw
this truck, which was the eye catcher for the exhibition
'Einmarsch 38'.
Kunsthaus Wien
The Kunsthaus shows besides a permanent exhibition about Friedensreich Hundertwasser
many photo exhibitions.
Beagle Boys
During a walk through Krems I saw an art work showing the Beagle Boys placed
at a very funny place.
Baumwipfelweg (Balcony)
During a horticultural show in Tulln I climbed up a so
called 'Baumwipfelweg'. This was a kind of path over the tree tops.
Baumwipfelweg (Tower)
During a horticultural show in Tulln I climbed up a so
called 'Baumwipfelweg'. From the top and especially
from a kind of
balcony I had an interesting view over the tree tops ('Baumwipfel').
Roman Tower 'Hufeisenturm'
A Roman tower shaped like a horseshoe ('Hufeisen') is still to be seen in
Tulln, a city in Lower Austria.
Hochosterwitz Castle
It was during my school time I entered the castle the first time and I was
especially impressed my the many gates on the way to the top.
Oberkapfenberg Castle
One of the largest medieval
festivals of Austria takes here place every year. Inside there is a museum
about weapons and torture.
Trautenfels Palace
On foot of the Grimming Mountain there is Trautenfels Palace, which is used
for exhibitions now.
Matzen Castle
In 2008 I visited a restaurant next to Matzen
Castle. The name Matzen goes back to a
Roman military station called 'Masciacum'.
Sculpture of a Lion
This lion in the gardens of Mirabell Palace seems to enjoy the beams of the
young winter sun.
Ambras Castle
At Ambras Castle I visited the famous 'Kunst- und
Wunderkammer' (cabinet of curiosities), which was
found by archduke Ferdinand II.
Ankeruhr
This clock which is situated in a gangway between two buildings shows every
hour a different historical figure of Austrian history.
Old pharmacy
In May 2008 I discovered at the market place of the small
Moravian town Uherskı Brod an old pharmacy with a
fascinating façade.
Murinsel in Graz, Austria
In the year 2003, an artificial island
called 'Murinsel' was build in Graz. Inside there is a small
coffee shop and a kind of arena.
Landskron Castle in Bruck,
Austria
From the Styrian castle Landskron high over Bruck are only a few remains,
e.g. the clock tower.
Ernst-Fuchs-Palace in St. Veit, Austria
During my stay in St. Veit an der Glan, I made a detour to a
hotel, which was designed by the Austrian
artist Ernst Fuchs.
Motor Tram GM 100 in Gmunden,
Austria
During a stay in Gmunden I used the chance to ride with a tram GM 100 dating
back to 1898.
